There Goes the Neighborhood
Now that we have a Black man in office and will hopefully soon have a Latina Supreme Court Judge, all of the crazy racists are coming out of the woodwork. The double standard is brilliantly evident and plays out daily on our news feeds. The time being devoted to destroy, derail, and dehumanize our historical leaders is amazing, insane and embarrassing to watch knowing the world is also watching this fiasco. For instance:
Senator Lindsey Graham stated to Sonia Sotomayor, "you have said some things that bug the hell out of me."
That statement was in response to her expression of her ability to handle the job due to her life experiences. Senator Graham was extremely rude and insulting to her for three days, and was not requested or forced to make any type of apology.
President Barack Obama stated to an audience that, "the Cambridge police acted stupidly in arresting somebody when there was already proof they were in their own home."
That statement was in response to an officer arresting Gates after Gates showed him ID, while in his house. The officer refused to show Gates and ID while inside of Gates' home. The case was later dropped which clearly reflects that the officer was in error when he made the arrest.
Does racism feel so good that some need to hold on so tightly?
Why? What is it that happens inside a person's head that says, "see that over there, that dark person, they have tails and are monkeys. Look at their lips all ugly and big and those Venus hottentot butts! They stink and their hair is nappy and they have small brains and big eyes. Listen here..They have no purpose but to serve you. They have no rights other than what you offer them. You are their lord and master. You are gods over the brown beasts."
Who is that? Who is talking? Where does that kind of thinking come from and why aren't these people removed from society so they can get help before they do more damage? They are a safety risk, a security risk, they're dangerous. (ie the man who murdered Harvey Milk, and the one who murdered George Tiller, and the officer who assassinated Oscar Grant, and the officers who beat Rodney King, and the cop who rammed the night stick up the black guy's ass, and the whites who went around shooting Black men in the head after Katrina, there are many many more examples.)
At least diagnose racism as a mental illness and allow them to get help. They look like straight crazies. And they are murdering people. Look, I guess we gotta help them with patience and other various necessary tools to address the situation. And it has got to be addressed now.
