We have experienced a very monumental time with brother Barak Obama becoming the President and representative of our country. With it comes a greater responsibility of how we as a people are viewed throughout the world. The first step in that direction is shedding the victim mentality that is so prevalent within our communities. Are we ready for that challenge of accountability? Although he accomplished a major milestone, will the euphoria gradually diminish and our people revert back to a mentally dead state? The time for using excuses to underachieve has been exposed for what it always was....just excuses of individuals that refuse to work together, if it means being a better nation for the whole. Many have gladly sold themselves out for individual short term gain, at the expense of us all. If all we do is view ourselves as a by-product of America then we still are in bondage. We have witnessed where one man can make a difference. With that let each of us take a stand in not accepting the victim mentality that permeates our communities. Our men should work together more to build for our peoples future, which can start by representing ourselves more than just urbanized slicksters trying to get by. We can focus on improving our financial IQ within all aspects of business not just sports or entertainment. Set examples of responsibility and positive self-esteem. The book stores are full of books on positive contributions of our people. Lets stop looking for others to emancipate ourselves and become your own savior.
In regards to our beloved sisters; set higher moral standards for your spouses that you yourselves abide by. If you want more then be more. The future of our people lies within your hands so let's stop letting America raise our children. We must redevelop our family ties, while reestablishing the sense of community that was stripped away from us that many have bought into. The result has been our own demise as a people. A mentor of mine once told me, " if you want to truly see the picture you have to step outside of it,". Let's do so and grow thereby becoming the people that many other nations know us to truly be.
